How to sound like Prog House

Yeah see don’t get me wrong, i love Jerome Isma-Aes stuff, after all I have what like 6 or something of his remixes, but I don’t think it’s a hard style to replicate, especially after looking at tutorials that are already on here.

Again don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying we shouldnt have a prog house tut either, by all means i don’t see why not, but i’m pretty confident that i could create a prog house track with no trouble and all my skills have come from learning from the SA tutorials that are already up?

track is a damn beast[/quote]

Yeah wicked track! But definitely not dirty. It’s trancy.

Maybe i might make a tutorial on this, i’m pretty sure i could replicate this sound no problem.

Yeah it seems like you could get the Portman/Isma Ae sound from the Mark Knight tutorial without too much modification. Personally I’d like to see more of a Gabriel & Dresden style sound but I’ll be excited to see it either way.

+1 for the tutorial being done in logic.

yes its ean easy style to replicate but i’m not talking about me, i’ve aleady said that im not bothered which way they tutorial goes, SA could do Country Music (Please Don’t) and i’d still learn from it.

was just saying whatever the masses choose for example DP, for me at least i feel i would learn more from a DP tutorial than i would from a Mark Knights or Jerome Isma Tutorial but i’ll be happy no matter what.

My reference to dirty and dark was in relation to the Tiny Dolls track (should have been more clear)

Yeah all good mate, totally understand what you mean, every tutorial for me has been useful and i’ve learnt something from it, even if it’s not in the genre or even sub genre of my liking.

However personally I feel (but only cos i’ve been here 2 years) that we have over 2 years worth of tutorials which are good enough for beginners to intermediate, but not enough advanced tutorials. In fact IMO there is only one advanced tutorial and that’s the Reaktor synth tutorial.

OK!!! what actually is progressive house.

Is the Daniel Portman stuff not more tech house? or at least hard progressive.

which is sweet if thats the style your after… I personally love the DP stuff ive heard.

I just kinda thought progressive was a bit more laid back?

Can we get a more comprehensive list of tracks… or particular sounds you want to learn.

Or anything that defines the genre… Dont want to repeat ourselves.

or if you can think of an angle for it like… synthesis or arrangemnts or mixing or whatever we can focus on that.

Up to you guys!

Mixing!! Please please mixing skills!!

you know you can embed youtube in to the forums… just copy and paste the embed code.

Kool mate

you like this? or any of the sounds?

It’s a great tune, got it in my bag somewhere. Not very proggy though  :stuck_out_tongue:

Sollindas suggestion of this is pretty sick:

I’ve always thought of progressive house as kind of having a little bit of a trancey sound to it, stuff like:

Gabriel & Dresden - Eleven

Kaskade - Angel on My Shoulder (EDX Redub)

Kaskade -Angel On My Shoulder (EDXs ReDub mix) - YouTube

James Zabiela - Perseverence

Glenn Morrison - No Sudden Moves

classic tune

Im so glad you guys are moving forward with this tutorial. I was greatly disappointed when it came in 2nd place in the March Poll.

To address Phil Johnston’s post…I think this style is best described as hard progressive tech house.

It seems that most people are looking for that Daniel Portman/Jerome Isma style which is best represented by the “Unreleased Digital” music label. This style of house is extremely DRIVING and has a dark vibe to it. I would love to see a full length tutorial with the same amount of in-depth instruction as the Simon Patterson tech trance tutorial with an emphasis on synthesis (percussion, bass and stabs {sylenth}) and arrangement. I want to emphasize the importance of a fat driving bass line and percussion line which really sets this genre apart.

Regarding which sequencer to use, I would prefer Abelton Live. When I first signed up for this website, I was a very loyal Cubase user (and a Logic user before that) and I had no interest in using Abelton for anything other than live PA’s. Now that i’ve been using Abelton, I have grown to love it. It is extremely user friendly and I haven’t gone back to Cubase ever since. I really hope this tutorial will be available on Live and I encourage others to give it a chance

Most people agreed that Daniel Portman’s “Dark is the night for all” would be an excellent candidate for the tutorial design. Here is the video:

Here is a cool example of a new Jerome Isma-Ae and Daniel Portman remix:

When I signed up for Sonic Academy, this was the tutorial I had hoped you would make. Thanks for making my dream a reality. A lot of people I know will be signing up for Sonic when they hear about this tutorial.

The “Memory Cell” track is definitely the same style of hard progressive tech house. Personally, I am not a huge fan of the hook sound but I love the driving bass. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that this style has a bit of a psy edge. You can here it in the bass and some of the effects in “Memory Cell” and “Dark is the night for all”.

Jerome Isa Ame tut either Ableton or Logic, I ain’t fussed as long as it’s goes into great detail like the techno and trance tutorials(Full Arrangment,fx,Mixdown and basic mastering:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D). Soooooooo looking forward to it well done Sa.
