HTSL ::::: Breaks

Im gonna give my $.02 here. I agree and disagree with Raymondsar. I think everyone would like to see more tutorials. It is why (after all) just about everyone on this site payed $90 for a subscription, for the tutorials. Sonic has produced 6 full length tutorials since January of this year. That is over one every month, and they aren’t crappy tutorials. I feel they are very in depth and informative. Since April of last year, they have produced 15 total full length tutorials (sorry, I included the Ableton 8 review, etc.). That is still over one every month and it averages out to $6 per tutorial in one year. Thats if you subscribed in April last year. Personally, I think its worth it. Even if you dont use Cubase, or you dont like trance, you can learn a little bit from all of the tutorials. I think that Sonic will continue to put out great tutorials.

The question is, what is the magic number for the customer to be satisfied? Personally, I think 18 in one year is perfect. That is 3 every 2 months. It gives time to produce quality and satisfies our needs as musicians and gives us time to practice the techniques that were taught in the tutorial.

Ok I am happy now. I am finally able to see the Justice Tut now and I am able to download the Ableton Production files so that I can finsih the tutorial. Hopefully they can do the breaks tutorial soon and I will totally Cool with that.

I think they are actually watching

hi guys,

firstly i’d like to let you know that producing these tutorials is an extremely time consuming procedure! we are trying our best to provide you with the highest quality video tutorials that we possibly can, and this unfortunately takes time to plan and execute.

i can only apologize for the length of time its taking to get these out to you, but rest assured we are working on lots of new material, some of which i’m working on personally and will be available to you as soon as next week!

i have been trying my best to keep on top of all of your questions on the forum since i came back here and this post unfortunately slipped under my radar, i thought you were all happy as larry talking about Breaks in here!

i’d also at this point like any of you that want to see a specific HTSL to send your ideas my way and i will get on em asap!

yeah bryan i’ve never really complained about the tutorials as they are good quality, i did how ever ask before i signed up if the site was ever gonna be doing tech trance or tribal tutorials and was told they would be coming quite soon so i signed up and have not seen anything of the sort.

its not even as if i asked for indepth full length tuts a quick tutorial based on

percusion

bass

stabs

pads

im not bothered about arrangement builds effects or anything like that as i can get that sort of info from the great trance tutorial.

i feel i was led to think this was a multi genre web site but seems to be very much house driven

also i don’t know how ever one else feels about this but some tutorials asked for on the forum wouldn’t even need video to them, they could be done with simple screen shots and a mp3 demo or samples to go with the screen shots.

for instance if someone asked for a certain sound you could just post up a screen shot of the parameters and settings of the synth and effects and an mp3 so people programming the sound had something to compare it to

Hello folks,

Just want to second Bryan’s apology in getting any Breaks related material up on the site but we want to make sure they are planned and executed in a way that gives you the best info. As he said above he will be doing a mini tutorial on how to do the Twocker bass sound and I will be doing a walk through of one of my tracks and I’d like the forum users to choose which one they think would be most beneficial. I have uploaded a couple of my Funkasaurus tracks on my profile page so check them out and let me know!

Jackhammer on the way people!

I like Kebappa best actually. Plus it sounds very synth based which should be nice to see recreated. But to be fair Jackhammer is great too.

guys

time for me to step in and say something… it’s kev here the md of sonic.

it’s my job to manage resources within sonic and to allocate staff to particular jobs, so any criticism about the speed of production of tutorials should be directed at me and not the team (and certainly not at other forum members).

we don’t always get everything right, but i’d like you to remember a few things about what we are trying to do at sonicacademy.com:

  1. what we offer is totally unique - both in the quality of our tutorials AND in the way we try to tailor our tutorials to the needs and requests of our community members.

when we get a certain level of requests about tutorials from our community we MAY then decide to run with those tutorials if this is possible, but this won’t always be the case.

  2. we have always tried to make what we do excellent value for money for our users whilst still earning enough money to be able to cover our costs.

doing stuff for FREE simply doesn’t work for a business like ours - and there are internet business going bust left, right and centre who adopt the model of giving everything away for free. we have to charge something for what we do, and we think those charges are really reasonable compared to anyone else out there who is offering training in music technology

  3. we are trying to build a community and need your input.

if you subscribe to the site and want answers to particular posts you should post them to the subscriber forum.

with the rest of the forum posts we really only have time to dip in and out of what’s going on and we rely on you guys (our community) to help one another out and self-moderate the forums.

we’re proud of what we offer our customers and the guys (led by phil) do an amazing job in always trying to push things forward constantly and i would ask that you do not underestimate the development time, talent, skill, time and effort it takes to bring you each tutorial.

i would ask that you review our site objectively and that you are fair to us and to one another. raymondsar, your posts as part of this thread are abusive and won’t be tolerated in the future, so watch your behaviour whilst on the board.

as for the forthcoming months, we have a full production schedule now underway.

the reason for the recent gap in tutorials is that we have have to plan, train and recruit new staff etc so that we can ramp up our production schedule to offer you more content on a more regular basis. we’re also working on a total revamp of the site which should see sonicacademy.com become something even more amazing over the summer months (hopefully - don’t even get me started on working with web designers!)

for ANYONE who isn’t happy with the regularity of tutorials and if you seriously think you’re not getting value for money then email me personally - kevin@sonicacademy.com - and we will see if we can sort something out for you. we’re reasonable people and will always want people (whether they like what we do or not) to have a positive experience when they deal with us!

thanks for your support to date.

    peace and love

well said kev !

Agreed!

Very nicely said Kev!

Please view my above post about getting your money worth. I think its worth every penny. Keep up the great work guys!

I think this is great now. I am just sometimes confused with where things should be. I cannot seem to find the files to download for the Ableton DJ vidoes.

apologies, i will upload these now

bry

please ! DONT apologise s.a  this site has ( and i know for a fact)

given people an insight into dance music that has not been done in such detail  without paying a crazy price!  (ever)

I am happy that people like you guys help  in peoples understanding of dance music

It ( for what we pay ) is a great resource and i think that this site is probably the most supportive tool i have come across !

so without sounding like a suck up …  a big THANK YOU  . all at sonic ( Im sure you could all be capitalising on your given talents but you choose to share ) … brendan Aka egg2

Nicely done Kev. Also that post has made me really look forward to the future tut’s, I’ve learned a crap load from the existing vids and I can only see the new ones getting better.
