How many more f*king house tutorials do we need?
I mean don’t get me wrong, i play House, make House and am dealing with House music promos on a daily basis, I love House. BUT… it’s healthy watching tutorials on other genres and I’m getting a bit disapointed that the votings have included yet more house and electro voting options?!!
For example we’ve been asking for a tech trance tutorial for pretty much most of this year and it was actually supposed to be the next tutorial on the site after the Electro and Minimal tech house tutorials were out… but now it looks like we may have to wait till MORE House tutorials come out… then another voting just to wait for even MORE House tutorials no doubt… (see a pattern emerging?)
& what about all those that would like hardcore, hard house, techno (carl craig etc), drum and bass, etc tutorials? Will they ever get catered for?
I think there needs to be a serious rethink on the future of the Sonic tutorials, else people will just think that this site is only for House heads which in turn loses potential members to the site.
I’m sorry to put this as a thread, I nearly wrote this as a private email to HQ but thought it would be important for others to post their thoughts on the matter as well.
thought id put this reply in here also as its relevant to the subject matter!

ok guys, the previous poll did not end in tech trance coming 3rd, techno was ahead of that. there was no clear cut winner after minimal house!
hence the call for another poll. we didn’t include a drum and bass tutorial because there is one already in the works. hardcore wasn’t included because when collecting names for this poll it didn’t have enough demand for it.
we included the electro ones because there was quite a high demand for them!
we will obviously reassess this on a day to day basis! and im SURE we will get round ALL genres.
we are trying to do videos on what you as a community want to see on the site and picking one genre is always going to please one individual and displease another.
we are very much aware that our previous few modules have been house based and we are currently looking into many different genres including pop music.
this poll is just a vote on a How to sound like that will be done. that is not to say it will be the ONLY How To Sound Like done!
trying to cater for the masses, without neglecting the smaller markets is a hard balance to achieve! and i hope in the couple months everyone will be happy with what they get!
bry
OK well that just seems to me like you’re just catering for those that have only just joined the site and can’t even be ****** to look through the Subscriber Videos to find tutorials that will cater for their needs. Instead, they’re just voting for more of the same thing and you’re catering, that just seems pointless.
it isn’t really a surprise that the more old school and regular of us are all the ones in agreement about more diveristy needed.
Your tuts are awesome, your website is awesome, and you guys are all awesome, so please don’t take this as me flaming you, it is just frustration of always seeing new people to the website getting their requested tutorials before the rest of us who’ve been here months and STILL waiting.
- That guy months ago constantly requesting for hardcore… I’ve not seen him for a while, maybe he got fed up?
- Raymondsar wanted breaks, he got the grahams tutorial finally after A LOT of moaning and bother, and even then wasn’t the breaks he was requesting.
- Myself, Jon Fisher and a handful of others have been requesting for Tech Trance for months and months and still it getting pushed back.
And now look at the votings, we now have to wait for a pryda prog house tut?! I dont remember ANY requests for prog house months ago…
im not sure why but ****'s starred out loads of words that arn’t even swear words.
Like ‘o…k’ and ‘s…i…t…e’ ???
weird
we get new subscribers to the site every day, and we are trying to keep both them and our existing customers as happy as we can!
you can be ASSURED that the pleas for Tech Trance have not gone unnoticed!
we are well aware that it is a heavily requested tutorial amongst our regulars, so please keep the faith in the Sonic Massive!
Im going to have to agree with Roben 100% on this. There needs to be some sort of guideline for getting things done voting wise. There’s tons of people that just sign up for the free stuff that are voicing their opinion and getting heard. It’s annoying to see someone with 2 replies that just joined or joined a month ago getting heard, when they have yet to put back anything into the site. I personally do my best to answer every post I can that pertains to technical know how because this site is meant to be informative, and we all need to contribute to make it work. Maybe you should set forth some sort of guideline, that you can’t even have a say in voting until you have made at least 100 posts. Even if all of your 100 posts are BS, surely there’s a chance that something valuable is in them. Tech trance needs to be the absolute next tutorial. Roben and I fought back in the day over this as we were both trying to get what we want. He tech trance, and I breaks. I got my breaks for lack of better words(mind you we haven’t seen or heard shiza from graham since, including responding to questions about his technique), but Roben and the others that have been here since the very beginning with us, have still yet to get what they’re after and that’s just plain rediculous! You have to give a little to get a little, and I think Roben and Jon’s 500+ posts speak for themselves! Especially when voting against a freebee member that chances are, won’t even sign up to the pay portion to access the tutorial that he tipped the scale on ruining it for the rest. 100 + posts or we don’t need your vote! GIVE TO GET PPL!!! Stop coming to this site and not contributing anything other than requests for tutorials. Say something useful and maybe things can change. But in the mean time, SA, your starting to upset the ones that actually MAKE THIS SITE WHAT IT IS! If you lose us, you have to start over with finding talent to answer all the questions you don’t have time for. Then your site looks hopeless… Because it’s apparent that there’s not enough hours in the day for you guys to accomplish everything. This is not a flame as Roben has stated, but enough is MORE than enough! FAMILY FIRST!
My analogy to SA: Stop leaving your girlfriend at home to go hang out with your new friend that might by you a drink. You know your girlfriend is going to take care of you!
Concerned,
Raymond
‘Family First’, hehe i love it Raymondsar
You couldn’t possibly police a ‘at least 100 posts’ can vote but i do definately think that only Sonic Subscribers should be allowed to vote. So maybe the vote system should be kept in the Subscribers Forum.
I also think some kinda running order should be available on site where we can get an idea what Tip / Tutorial to be expecting next, I don’t really care for a date of when the tip / tutorial is out because i’d rather the tutorial was top notch and a week late than rushed and on scheduled date.
As it is, we have no idea what tutorial / tip is next, it would lead to less frustration from members because they could physically see when their long awaited requested tutorial is due… “ok so i’ve just gotta wait till this tut and that tip comes out then after that will be the one i’ve been looking forward too, yay”
Something like that really.
Anyways prog house is pretty similar to the Swedish House Mafia, so why doesn’t everyone who voted for that just look in subscriber videos and watch those? Along with the trance tutorial.
Voila, prog house.
WOW!!! This topic was a beatdown if I ever saw one… I agree and disagree. I do agree that it should be open to forum members only, but should be viewable by all. I do think that there is alot of house too. Even though I make house, I would like to see a tech house tutorial, because the tech house is completely different then the other one posted. Tech trance is good, but why is there more fidget up there? Didnt we already see one? Progressive the same. Didn’t we see stuff like that that was similar? I dunno…
Raymond, I know you are very vocal about this stuff, but the threats and stuff arent very nice. I won’t leave this website b/c I get value out of every tutorial that is done and I really enjoy the people on here. If you leave, then say that, but its not like Jerry McGuire.
“WHOS COMIN WITH ME???”
hehe
Raymond’s just hoping you’ll make him your girlfreind by the sounds of it
I like the sound of variety but I learn something from every tutorial, even if it’s very similar to others.
I also put a vote in for hardcore!
guys i can see what you are saying “why another progressive house” “why can’t they just watch swedish house mafia”
well they could watch swedish house mafia, but branding swedish house mafia as the be all and end all of progressive house doesn’t make sense.
the same way in that there is a fidget house option in the list because twocker isn’t the be all and end all of fidget. each artist has their own individual style and that is what we are trying to show our users how to create, not the genre per se.
the fact genres are up for vote, is just so we can group the artists.
we aren’t going to make a general sound in that area, but rather focus on an individual artist tips and tricks.
saying that however. change is always good.
tech trance will get done guys just give us time to get it out there!
i agree with everything that has been said on this thread.
to Bryan when we originally did the poll you in your own words stated that the winning tutorials would be the next tutorials and then they would be removed for the next poll until there was more demand and any that had already been covered would not be in the poll either.
so you can see why we feel gutted when we see not 1 but 2 electro house fidget and minimal and prog back on the poll these have already been covered and should have not gone back in the poll (at least this time).
imo they should have never been on the poll in the first place, i have nothing wrong with losing the vote to another genre but i want it to be fair.
oh btw for anyone who is not a member of sonic academy reading this DON’T BE PUT OFF this is the best site on the net and has great tutorials that we all believe in and follow! SA to most of us is like our religion, sometimes when things don’t go our way we blow up at our gods
I think what everyone is really trying to say is they would like to see the tutorial of crookers, switch, fake blood, hearve, and who ever else is fidget as the next tutorial. If this is not done they will all be leaving as well as I.
Long live the fidget tutorials or me roben fisher and howie are gone. Lol

I agree with some comments here but would disagree with others.I can understand people wanting different stuff particularly if their genre hasn’t been done yet however since techno got a higher number of votes than tech trance last time from an empirical point of view i could say THAT HAS TO BE NEXT but i’m not sure thats right or fair.Even if a few other people who thought the same way as me might agree,at the end of the day if sonic are putting this to a vote then the only decent thing to do is go with the overall group consensus.
With that said i don’t think its right(if this is actually the case as some people have alluded to)that any registered member of the site eg those who are only signed up in name for free without subscribing/paying should get a say or equal say to paid up members,as it seems unfair that people that are funding the site should be dictated to by others who have only bothered to register.
But for anyone that has paid their money then surely its only correct they get an equal say no matter who else makes a louder noise on the forums about a certain style.Obviously due to the amount of house releated voting a lot of people who want this aren’t as vocal about posting but still desire that and therefore vote, that again is the only fair way to do it and means those who don’t want to type out long posts on the forum can get an equal say.Even though for a while there might have been a small vocal group wanting hardcore, when it came time to vote it showed how little support there was for this overall,so in this respect i can understand why there hasn’t been a hardcore or hard dance tutorial yet.I mean when i was a kid i really liked hardcore techno,so on some level i wouldn’t mind seeing some obscure htsl that but i know there will never be enough support which is fair enough.
As i said myself i do get slightly frustrated by the idea of say another tech house or minimal thing when i’d rather see techno for example but i realise thats my own bias and self intrest talking. Also as a final point i’m not sure i agree with this idea of we’ll all learn a lot more from lots of different styles even those we have no intrest in producing.I think Bryan gets it right when he says that just because theirs 1 htsl on a set sub genre dosen’t mean that alone explains everything about the genre and assuming the htsl’s have different/new aspects to them then i would probably find a lot more relevant info from a genre i might produce than learning perhaps more stuff i didn’t know(numerically speaking)in say a drum and bass htsl but most of which isn’t relevant or at least as relevant to me as i never intend to do that style. My issue with the mass influx of people that seemed to suddenly show up wanting fidget stuff almost straight after the last fidget htsl was a lot of people were asking for similarish sounding stuff that on a technical level wasn’t too different than what was shown in the previous one.I would think and hope it goes without saying if the same genre is covered again it will take a different pov showing new techniques and if it got to the stage that similar genre htsl’s were repeating themselves then i’d say i would then be a bad idea to repeat the same stuff and the site should focus on different things, but i’m sure the sonic team wouldn’t take on the same genres again if they felt they had run out of stuff to say.
Since its supposed to be more about the artist than the genre as long as they are not too similar i don’t see a problem, but i would if for example we got a gaiser tut and then another m-nus type straight after.
I have to agree with roben… too many electro house stuff and some of them pretty much sound the same. How come no Drum & Bass? That’s a totally different genre. As for house, I thought the “Moto Blanco” tutorial needs a more comprehensive update. Deal with the commercial side of house. Pop even. How 'bout filtered disco? I’m a li’l sick and tired of deadmau5 sounding stuff.
What about breaks.
to chris831 like roben and i have said its not that we are bothered that its not our genre because all of us that are saying no more house for the moment all produce house, we all feel that by not stepping out side the “house” umbrella we are losing out on a lot of info that could potentially make much better producers from us.
we know that almost everyone on this site loves house (me included) but if we never step away from house if even only for one of two tutorials we will never develop the skills and broaden tastes to produce future fresh music
