Mac or PC

well my 100% honest opinion is that i will never go back to using windows, i used it for such a long time and thought that it would be really hard to change over to using osx. after having osx for only 2-3 days i found that i had already got to grips with how it all worked. i’ve now been using mac’s since the release of osx tiger (around 4-5 years) and in that time i have had no problems caused by the os or the software i’ve installed, the only real crashes i’ve had was with an early bug in logic 7.2

Its my belief that a talentless musician could shell out many thousands of pounds and still end up talentless regardless of the platform they choose.

No amount of cash will buy or guarantee success. If you got it you got it.

That’s pretty much how its always been.

Fair game mate, appologies for my comment I didn’t mean to offend. I know text can always be read in a different context to how it was meant by the writer, and for that i should have taken care to place my words correctly.

I understand where you’re coming from, it’s a shame you are having these issues with your computer. It may be worth looking at what else you use your computer for as well as looking at the specs of your comp. Multiple bits of software and icons in your task bar can really slow down your machine.

Try completely formatting your drive and starting a fresh (only format if you know what your doing… and remember to back up anything important) and using your machine purely for production only?

I’m running a duel athlon 4200 processor with 3gb ram and I have no issues. No idea what my gfx is now as i bought it so long ago haha.

The only thing that gets up my nose is the stupid microsoft notifications all the time. I do like the concept of Macs due to them booting up quicker and less chance of virus’, etc, but i can’t stand the whole ‘apple’ key as replacement to your ‘right click’ and other small minor things that really shouldnt matter… but they still do. lol.

In the end of the day, if you’re happy, comfortable and your machine is working how it should with nothing getting in the way of your work and performance, then thats what counts.

Although obviously in your case this isn’t the situation, i hope what ever you end up doing that it sorts things out.

I said…nice one Bruv !!

Motsey and Roben, get a room.

I have a mac and a pc, only just got the mac but it seems cool.

I personally prefer the midget vs normal p*rn argument. I’m a midget man.

gotta love a bit of Bridget the midget

I think when windows 7 comes out microsoft will be back on form. Looks a great solid platform, like xp back in the day.

I think Vista was the best thing ever for Mac sales;)

I’ve been running Windows 7 for a month or two now and it’s excellent. I went from XP to 7, Vista sucked so I didn’t touch it.

What is it people don’t like about vista? I’ve been running vista 64 bit for six months now and love it, couldn’t go back to xp!

Vista was poorly thought out and ridiculously resource hungry amongst other things. It was supposed to have a new file system and graphics engine which never materialized and annoyed many people. Dont get me started on joining it to a domain!

I suppose for your average user it will be ok for most things. For me though it was at that point I moved to a mac.

I have never been a fan of PC products. I used Windows for the longest time because I didnt know any better. Finally, I just said that I was gonna jump to Apple. It was the best thing I could have ever done in terms of computing. OS stability is a beautiful thing. It just works too. The filing and organization is amazing. Its just very intuitive.

IMO, Windows needs to build an OS from the ground up. There is alot of junk in the Windows OS that prevent it from being as solid as OSX. OSX was built from the ground up as well and it shows. Its an amazing piece of software that once people try it, many dont use a PC anymore except for necessity.

MAC

What I will say is this. One reason Apple computers tend to get the reputation of being more “stable” is because they’re all the same. With the Mac you get it one way, the way it works, right out of the box. All motherboards come from Apple. The OS comes from Apple. Apple puts together all the machines after a lot of testing. There is far less of a chance of failure.

Cons: more expensive than PC,not many upgrades can be done

Pros: less conflict

PC

With so many different motherboards on the market and several different chipsets controlling things, conflicts are more likely to arise. Vendors of PC parts typically release products before they are finished and expect you to update them when you uncover the problems. Many different brands Dell ,HP or customs pc.

Is it a hardware issue? BIOS setting? A driver? The PCI slot in which you installed the sound card? Or is it in the registry? A virus? Worm? Service Pack incompatibility? You may have to check out “everything” and boot and reboot 3, 10, or in the case of a nightmare issue, 50 times before you get it solved.

Pros: cheaper than mac , upgradable in a long term

Cons: Viruses, conflicts

If you want to use PC for your productions I strongly recommend a computer made specifically for audio recording.Companies that made these are:

Both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages. It may boil down to budget, how productive you want to be, your clients, choice or sequencer, or a preference on your part. What? You want me to tell you what to do? I already told you: Get Both!

LOL! I love the irony of promoting vista from an Apple product

I have to say I use my Lenovo to do work and I use my MacBook Pro to make music.

BTW, I miss those ads…
Jon_fisher (25/09/2009)
totally worth it, ive been on apples now for around 5 years and would never go back to pc. i don’t want to sound like an advert but apples just work
+1

Custom built PC is better than a MAC.

My **** doesnt crash because I have a brain and its faster than any mac available on the market.

And sometimes programs crash because they wrote ****tier code for PC version than MAC version

Windows Kernel runs on all kinds of piece of **** hardware all the way to high end servers,it took a lot more brains to make that work than ,taking a FreeBSD OS, slapping a UI on top of it and making it run on proprietary hardware, with PC all you have to do is just do a little research of which of thousands components you can choose are better for windows. And I love choices.

I dont want to be forced into proprietary world controlled by Apple,If I get sick of things I can mod my pc, change hardware, overckock, change case , thousands of mods available.

And I personally feel that Apple products dumb people down
