They told me to do it Jon

haha!

Seriously - Anyone watch them yet?

I watched the first few intersting chord deconstruction analysis - but had friends come round and didn’t want them thinking I was into House, I have a reputation to uphold

Haha! Will watch them 2moro in the Attic, with headphones so.

Looking forward to part 2

I have watched them, was really interesting to see it all follow the same rhythm and have each part play a different melody but based around the same idea, am definately going to be using these tips!

I don’t get it?

Have i missed something completely?

Was it not obvious just by LISTENING to tracks like Pjanoo that the bassline and chords followed a similar key structure? Am i the only one that didn’t really need Phil to tell me that’s what happens in these tracks?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to have a moan, but it seems like rather than having more technical / advanced tutorials which this site needs, we’ve been given another video series in laymens terms for people who are too lazy to work out something that’s obvious and simplistic.

& what p*sses me off is that the request and most of the +1’s was made by people who arn’t even subscribers!

Why cater for those who arn’t even supporting the cause? AND can’t even watch the videos anyways!! They should try SUBSCRIBING and watching the rest of the tuts first before making requests for tuts we don’t need.

How about more advanced stuff?

By the way ICN…

Time of the month roben?

Ive been playing keyboards for 20 odd years and still have problems with coming up with decent chords… i just thought it was cool to look at a way to break it down in to parts to make it easier. But if your already a chord progression master then I salute you… make me some chords?

Even though these tuts are nowhere near trance *cough its nice to see this sound covered. This type of house is currently a massive sound globally. As for laymans terms i think this is just automatic i think phil has to come from the perspective of the average subscriber is dumb, lazy and ignorant just to get the bases covered and not get that opposite of Robens post of people complaining that Phil moves too fast or doesnt fully explain everything hes doing. Unfortunately in cases of education the beginner usually win as their usually the bulk of the students so in laymans terms Sonics biggest customers :stuck_out_tongue:

Emos say Eno

cheddar house tut.... meh

@ Phil J - Appreciate your time and effort on this, as I think these are some awesome tuts from a layering perspective. Same lead and bass principle can be used in any genre !

Honestly, I don’t think this is one of the better tutorials on here. From either a beginners or more experienced perspective.

What it does well is to show you what kinds of sounds are being used in this genre, how to make them, and how layering makes something simple sound more complex/interesting. All good

But then, in terms of the chords element, the advice can be boiled down to “bang away on the keyboard till you get something you like”.

It would have been MUCH more useful for Phil to explain chord progressions. Why a I sounds good after a V, movement through a riff etc. Even the bassline element was bang away till it sounds good. What about discussing harmony on a bass, using a different key, dropping the root of each chord down by, say, -2 octaves and trying that.

Lots of actual running time were devoted to Phil stabbing away trying to find a progression he liked. That’s not advice really.

Sorry for the moan. I’m loving the tuts and the forum and think the sub is worth it. But this tut was poor.
