Melody

Here are the follow-up videos to the melody series.

As an educator, I have taken a personal vow to help EVERYBODY understand music and what it is as not only a medium of personal expression, but as a vehicle through which one can communicate his or her own personal contribution to the world through sound and musical interpretation.

Music is one of the most DIFFICULT of the arts, because it is a TRUE representation of who you are. Each one of you present your songs, replete with texture, melody, harmony, rhythm and SOUL with each production you render from your DAW. It is quite honestly the most COURAGEOUS thing a person can do, in my opinion: Put themselves out there for others to love, cheer, criticize, scorn, hate, buy, party with, and perhaps ENJOY while they exist here on this planet: and then TAKE whatever the masses give you.

I’ve decided to do the right thing. I apologize to Jan for not providing the instruction that he pays for with his subscription. He is the ONLY one that has been on my mind all day. NOT because of his posts, but because he felt as if he didn’t get a full explanation of what I propose to deliver. I watched my videos several times today, and I realized… he was correct! I didn’t exactly explain what I set out to explain.

So, as a good educator, I set out to fix that ONE person that felt left out. And for that I present to you the following videos… And after viewing, I hope there won’t be any further questions about my skill…

Enjoy.

P.S. I think it might be a good idea if a I take a break from SA for a while…I’ll be back soon.

I like how excited you were while building the melody  i get excited like that too

thanks for the videos jamie. I hope your break is not too long…!!

Im having a musical epiphany here

Oh by the way on episode 4 the reason why your velocity randomly went to the highest was because you may have accidentally clicked Alt(idk what it is on mac) and moved the note up but it only moved the velocity up one way to fix is by going to a note and holding alt and dragging down as it will lower your velocity to whatever you want and then next note you draw in will be the same velocity…

Great stuff Jamie.

You have such a positive attitude Man…  Nice having you around

jamie those vids are very big and a have to scroll my screen over to the right

cant you redo them so that people who dont have big screeens can watch them

without having to scroll to the right?!!??!!?!?

I do that ----------- ok I am lying :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice one again Jamie

But however
Music is one of the most DIFFICULT of the arts, because it is a TRUE representation of who you are.
is not something I can agree with - I think any true artist be it sculptor, painter or composer expresses themselves through their own work

Take Sylvia Plath as one example or Van Gough as another both expressed their inner feelings in very differnt ways

As musicians we always at some point get it wrong - I can not think of one musician I can honestly say has produced something 100% perfect everytime - so what we are only human but I feel since music in this day and age is so disposable one can move on - with a novel, sculptor etc I think it is more difficult due to the time it may take too produce and therefore more personal expression goes into it

So I am not saying it is not difficult to express oneself in music production I just think it is not the most

I’ve watched the new Scales and Modes videos now and have a MUCH better understanding of modes etc than I ever did reading the books I have. Sometimes hearing it played and hearing it simply explained is a better way of doing it.

Also, what I love about the videos is that Jamie gives us a process to work with. And process can help in the early days. Much like having a map to an unfamiliar country - it’ll help us navigate the ground. Eventually I’ll no longer need a map to get from point A to point B but it’s absolutely essential at the start.

“See, I can look at a painting and admire the colors

Or appreciate any type of art that I discover

But what I dig’s invisible

It’s my teacher and I’m its student

I tell ya

Ain’t nothing quite as beautiful as Music”

But surely the beauty of a picture is what you don’t see as well as what you see and poetry and a novel are both invisible too

the beauty of most pictures is that YOU arent in them

and while i would prefer poetry to be invisible, there are several novels on the floor beside my desk which can be seen clearly

it helps in not falling over them
