Big thanks to Jimmy J who put it all together.

The Beni Benassi ones are hillarous, the way they both try and explain things in English !

Dual Arpeggiator instrument in Ableton
bangthedj (21/11/2010)
I created a dual Arpeggiator instrument in Ableton and thought I would share.

What it does:

Runs two Arpeggios simultaneously on the same instrument, which itself isn’t that interesting, but I’ve set it up so one decays out, the other in. Also one is set to chords mode giving a solid lower foundation, the other more ‘tinkly’.

Anyways, drop it before your synth, and plonk in some chords (I demo’d with Cminor C,Eflat, G and went from there) and got some interesting results.

The joy is that you can play about with the rate settings of each arpeggio for some really interesting and melodic sounding results.

In fact you can play about with most of the settings obviously and really get something musical sounding out of it.

You’ll see I put a velocity cap in the chain on the second Arp too, that was just to force it to come in low and then I ramp it up in the velocity section (set high target and longish decay time).

Just download the file, change .doc to .adg (wouldn’t let me upload otherwise) drop the File into your /MIDI Effect/MIDI Effect Rack folder and there you go.
A little secret for Ableton’s Impulse

How to add effects to individual sounds in Ableton’s Impulse

Are you loving the simplicity of using your Impulse instrument for drum programming but wanting more control over individual sounds within Impulse?

Want to re-EQ the snare and add compression to the kick seperately.

Here is how:

  1. Drag impulse to a midi track & assign your drum sounds
  2. Create a new audio track for each sound you want seperated
  3. In the audio tracks ‘in/out’ routing where it says ‘audio from’ choose the impulse track
  4. A new window opens allowing you to choose the individual sounds in Impulse

Now you can add as many fx as you want to individual sounds within Impulse giving you full control over each sound.
Thought it would be usefull here too

Nice one Slender.

Picked up CM today. Watched Vid with Dom Kane. Nice guy… 40mins long. Few product placements. One or 2 little technique & workflow bits.

Will y’all live without ever seeing it? Yup… think so

Why is Computer Music Magazine so “lite” when it comes to these Vids? Future Music is much weightier. All CM ever does is have cnuts going “Sidechain this” and “White Noise” there. Only so many times you can watch that.

That being said… he did a nice little trick using drumracks/simpler (he uses live).

l

l

l

Bounced 4 bars of a stab pattern. Pattern had one stab per 4 bars.

Bounced it dry. Duplicated the same fx, comp, reverb etc… onto a new channel.

He then loaded that into a drumrack/simpler. Hit loop and draw’d in a long bar for length of break.

Then Automated both the start & end times over the course of the break, so the loop was getting shorter & shorter until it it was rolling in a high rate blur… think the lfo filter bass roll in Dooms Night.

He had the stab playing @ original speed at start of break… gradually getting faster, then blurred, then gradually getting slower again… returning to normal - then track kicked back in.

Interesting technique. Lots of ways to do the same thing, but this way seems a lot more versatile as you can use any sampled material, or a resampled synth.

. Reamping / Sending Sounds from your Computer, through external FX & Amps AND back in.
