One of a kind! To talk about techno or house these days is nearly impossible without mentioning Ostgut Ton. The record label of Berlin’s Berghain (and Panorama Bar) caused a similar stir as its larger-than-life eponym, the club’s former home Ostgut. Set up as a hoard to host mix compilations from the club’s residents, it soon took a life of its own. Next to the mixes from Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock for Berghain and Cassy’s or Tama Sumo’s Panorama Bar concepts, Ostgut went on to release artist albums by Shed, Prosumer & Murat Tepeli, aforementioned Dettmann and Klock as well as a string of 12-inches by the club’s residents and affiliated artists. Dry and straight techno stands next to deep and essential house, reactions to UK’s ever-evolving bass music universe go hand in hand with concepts like the label 's anniversary compilation “Fünf” (field recordings from the club turned music). All driven and fed by vitality and an interplay that has been rarely seen between a record label and its attached club. Label manager Nick Höppner talks you through Ostgut Ton’s past, present and future.
