Minimal / Techno / Tech House Production Thread

Agreed

Totally. They know their stuff.

They use Jomox Drum Machines to make some of the Kicks - Dont like the sound of them… they can sound really hollow &/or too “Musical” to my ears.

They probably use Jomox’s on some of the Kicks that I like too, but its how they process them after makes them cool.

lol ive been looking for a jomox mbase for some time. want to get one cheap off ebay and try it out and make my own kicks

Mbase - I think they’re really 808’y arent they?

Can they do 909 style kicks too? Can you add noise or something on top of them as well?

I’ve got this pack as well - never really use it… I think its this one. Just got it to see what the Kicks were like. Its made with a mbase & xbase999

Bit underwhelmed with them as they are, but they’d probably be grand if you layered them a bit. Just didnt like the way they sounded. Not hard or dirty enough.

Yeah 808 909 or whatever you feel, I just like the idea of making it instead of flicking through samples. Don’t know if it’s any good or not

I have used my machine drum quite a bit, good for f@cked up glitchy sounds not as good At 909 or 808 stuff though or it could just be I’m a Cupid stunt and don’t know how to make them lol

Yeah, that would be cool… changing the kick til it sounded right. That would be class.

Check out the Pack Mate - you’ll get an idea as to how good it can sound. To be fair to them, they’re great at making samples.

I just have never been able to find many of those that I go F U C K I N Y E A H ! to

I’m sure that I wouldnt complain if I got one though! LOL

I’d say you could make unreal basses with one.

The jomox stuff has been on my buy list when i win the lottery

Just discovered the MINUS live pack up on the official Ableton website

http://www.ableton.com/minus

Full of lessons and ableton sets from the artists on the label, pretty damn inspiring!

That pack inspired me to start jamming my tunes to make a basic arrangement, rather than trying to spread them out (and getting stuck more often than not).

I really like the way you can use scences in Live & the control mapping is excellent.

But I use Logic for the main, and tried to bring a bit of Live back into it.

Now I just loop all the parts out for the length of the track that I want, just as a start. I might put in a few breaks (no kick etc…) in a few different places, to have something to aim for. Also, I’ll hae a filter on the Master & have the automation already drawn in to take out the Lo’s in a few spots, just to keep it interesting when I’m jamming.

I’ve got a Novation Nocturn, which I use to contol the Mixer in Logic.

I’ll have everything muted apart from kick/bass whatever, at the start.

Then, I’ll hit mutes & do fades as the song plays etc…

I’ll record the automation after a few runs & go in and tidy everything up after. Delete any regions that I dont need.

You can come up with some cool stuff jamming. Even getting a long fx’d sound, and doing quick volume fades or “gate-y muting” - you can get rhythms & sounds that you wouldnt have originally intended making.

Wwooooooaaa this is now stuck

haha so it is - just need the other thread to be stuck too

So going back too kick drum machines has any one had a go on the Kick Lancet - I like the interface, as it looks dead simple - plus at £350 seems cheaper than others on the market

Here is the link

Cool!

Now that we’ve got the prestiege of a sticky, hopefully more people will vomit their production techniques out - :w00t: :hehe:

Mussi & Slender - I’ve been looking @ MBase11’s all day… I’ve got the call! LOL

Just trying to figure out how to get a Boss RE20 AND a MBase11 for xmas… Hmmm.

Going back to the drum tools, has anyone used uTonic?

Sorry if it has been covered in this thread already, but it has become immense in length!

The demo is pretty awesome from what I have tried.

That seems very reasonably priced.

Developed by one of the Guys who is on the Reason Team - Cant remember exact details now.

Now… this is probably PURE GOSSIP - but I’ve read on a couple of different places that Jon Gaiser uses it? Could / Is probably BS - but still, sounds & looks interesting.
