New how to sound like poll august 2009

Dear Sonic Academy,

First let me start by saying you all do a stella job with your tutorials. I am very very happy to have found and subscribed to your site, and eagerly await your upcoming tutorials from week to week.

You have always been good with entertaining your subscribers to put their 2 cents in the forums with these polls to find out what they want. (Sometimes causing mayhem as we can see in this poll…)

I was hoping to add my 2 cents.

Ableton & Sylenth are great - very straight forward and easy to follow. I can see why you use them. I know we can all easily transfer the techniques you show on them to our own DAW’s and soft synths. But…

Would it be possible to do future tutorials with other popular programs like Cubase, Logic etc. and Native Instruments, Arturia, Spectrasonics etc.

I would guess a lot of your subscribers use these and would be interested.

Thanks anyway and keep up the good work.

I agree with it !!! and I appreciated the last tech tip which is shown in Cubase

hi jon,

could not answer to your last post earlier.

Wanted to say you have my deep respect for your answer, saw you in a different light before (as i realized later you had many posts in the past - maybe i came accross the wrong one’s). If sa, what i think can judge your posts better than me after the time you did contribute, i am totally fine with it, take my appologize - it was never really personal from my side (maybe some wrong words - was early in the mornin). The thing i wanted to point out is not to forget what most of the people want. That means not to forget minorities or learn new things i am also open to bossa style dancemusic like one of the last posters asked for.

So i think everything fine with us.

As i said before peace and freedom.

hi i took no offense to what you had to say, i just maybe thought that people had misinterpreted things i had to say. anyway no harm done.

sometimes i may come across as a prick but thats not the intention and my views and opinions that i shared were only one’s that i thought would benefit us in a whole and not just me as and individual.

like i said its no big problem as i know that things don’t always come out how they are supposed to when in text

many thanks for the apology

Btw what is Nu-disco? is it the kinda madona style frech filtered house lol

some may find it strange that i don’t know what it is but we can’t know everything, would be quite interested if this wins as i’ve never heard of it  i always like finding out about different styles

Hey Jon,

Nu-Disco is a name that seems to have been given to a newish style of house that usually sits around other styles of house BPM’s (128) but often a lot slower too (Aeroplanes stuff can even go down to 108BPM). Lifelike, Alan Braxe, Fred Faulke are doing stuff pretty much like you guessed - French filtered house. But not like the distorted Justice, Busy P stuff - a more cleaner sound with big fat bass lines - often arpeggiated, and the use of lots of strings, vocoded voices, arpeggiated leads and sound fx stolen from 70’s disco and 80 synth acts - think Depeche Mode. Cut Copy from Australia and Aeroplane from Belgium are killing it atm.

Could be an interesting tutorial.

hi all

really struggled to vote this time around so put it on tech trance for the sake of it to see what it could offer. when are we going to see some hard house, uk hardcore or drum n bass, old skool? Perhaps prodigy kinda covered that?

i know i’m a minority here (hence not being on for a while) but feel we should try and lean away from the 130bpm-ish music just for once and experience some full on stuff. as always SA continue to give the people what they want and if that’s it then so be it, keep up the good work guys

As for my earlier post asking Sonic Academy if more tutorials could come in ways other than Ableton or Sylenth.

Latest tech tip is in Cubase.

Brilliant!! Thanks SA.

lol my guess was quite close then. yeah that sounds quite cool and its always good to learn something new gonna go and check out some of those names you mentioned.

thanks

Simon Patterson!!! <3

Looks like Nu Disco is running away with it.

OMG! Simon Patterson will be awesome!

Alright…Poll should be closed right now and there should be tutorials of the top three made here. No more fuss!

Jon,

The best place to find Nu-disco is the website the hype machine. They have all kinds of music, bootlegs and remixes that you can’t get other places. You need to check it out, I discovered it about a year ago. Just put the artist that you want to find in the top search box and pick the music blog that contains the songs you want to check out.Hope you and everyone that reads this will enjoy it like I do.

Tom

Don’t worry jon, you’re not the only one who doesn’t really know what ‘nu disco’ is. I kinda just switch off with genre names these days as it seems every other month some ‘cool new genre’ is created… which more often than not is just something thats been out before but re-named.

Bassline House aka Speed Garage is a good example.

Music’s music, I just listen, if it’s 4/4 then it’s off to a good start then i let the tune do the talking, i dont dislike or like something judged on it’s genre title.

Disclaimer:

Not to say ‘nu disco’ is new, or a ‘cool new genre’, im just explaining a point on genre names these days.

i take it La Roux falls into the Nu disco sound hope so that music’s quite catchy although i would like to hear something less pop with a more disco cut appeal.

La Roux is more Disco Cuts and 80’s breaks and pop synths still really catchy though

I vote for New Trance! The best new genre is Sparkle House. It’s fantastic

i want US Circuit sound. e.g Ralphi Rosario

Gah, wanted to vote for Pryda, Jack Beats and Herve…

haha, I would love all of the choices to be honest :stuck_out_tongue:

I ended up choosing herve

Just wondering How long more will the poll stay open?? and when it does close what is the usual time after b4 we expect to see the tutorial??
