Why do you think it is that the music production world is predominately male?
Sure there are some female producers, but it really is mostly male, yet if you look at other musical aspects like singing, it’s not that case at all.
I guess perhaps another socialology question, but it would be interesting to try and understand.
Tell ya why!
Just ask your Girlfriend/Missus why she hates you doing it so much.
They just dont fkn like it. Plain as
I think the difference is that they have the aptitude to sit for hours in a zombified state watching soaps - but are unable to sit for hours in a zombified state in front of a computer monitor, clicking a mouse. Contrary to female opinion - they cant multitask
Of course there are exceptions to the rule. But for the most part - I have only ever heard of 2 or 3 female producers on forums. Maybe they dont participate in forums.
I think women have to feel a connection to something to enjoy it… and maybe the emotion, or imagination is lacking at the creation stage to be sufficiently interested. I think they enjoy listening/dancing more than understanding how its made.
Also, they’re (mostly) not technically minded: Eg. Q. What type of car do you drive? A. A Red one.
i produce with women all the time. its called spreading the SEED!
lol. bad joke. but I was gunna pull a “I produced with your MOM last night…”
however it seemed tasteless. so instead I’ll just reply to the thread.
…
I think this goes for a lot of things. For instance there are more male guitar players then female guitar players. Of course their are some great female players, but there are way more male players… and vice versa the same could be said about DJs and producers…
NOW. people might rip me up for this one… but if you break it down to its most basic psychology… people perform or play music to be creative &/or get attention. Through our current state of society creativity almost always attracts attention from the opposite sex. it is in our DNA to be interested in a person of the opposite sex that stands out to you. It’s like peacocking with music instead of your clothes. Kids today are raised with the notion that if you are a rock-star… that you get all the girls. Not everybody is into the music to just “get laid”, but I bet everybody on the boards can think of atleast 1 or 2 people they know that do it for this exact reason. I can think of like a dozen DJs I know that do it for this reason.
now we can make the argument that producing is not the same because your sitting in your room or studio making music. nobody is watching you. But i also know people that produce so that they can tell people “Yah, I produce music”… this is why I say that it can be done for creativity or attention or both.
to as your question to WHY there are more guy producers then girls… ITS a pretty easy answer. and flame me if you want… BUT, girls are not nearly as TECH savy as guys. I think I have met 1 girl in my entire life that knows more about technology then I do. Most girls can barely surf the web without hurting themselves. Using ableton or logic and learning the finer points to the science of sound? yeah right! they got better stuff to do with their time like find a peacock and watch The Jersey Shore.
lol. obviously this doesn’t apply to everybody. but the majority of chicks I know in the states would apply to the statement above. even the few girls I know that ARE interested in making music… they can’t figure out why their computer is running slow, but they are going to write a song? so much goes into production and not just skill musically. you need to be extremely tech savy as well. atleast in my opinion.
Oooh… I’ve reported that Post UV, you sexist pig :w00t:
ICN (10/12/2010)
Oooh… I’ve reported that Post UV, you sexist pig :w00t:
wouldn’t be the first time somebody did that.
now I have to “register” every time I move into a new neighborhood.
Yeah I guess that makes a lot of sense really, girls arn’t as technical as guys that’s for sure, I guess that’s why again in the world of engineering, such as cars or even building and fixing computers, it tends to be predominately male again.
I just find it intersting because women are very musical and just as passionate about music as guys are, so in that logic you’d think there would be an almost 50/50% split when it came to producers, but it’s not that case at all.
But it’s probably fair to assume there is roughly around a 50/50% when it comes to singers… or perhaps more swinging towards female?
Would be nice to see more female producers, even perhaps more females on the forum! What ever happened to Wonk?
lol ‘peacocking’, read the Game have you by chance UV?

Still got this baby on vinyl…
Trade last dance with apparently ‘SJ’ from ‘SJ and babydoc’ singing.
One thing that boggles my mind is that EVERY female DJ/producer is fit as ****!! I bet you cant name me one ugly female dj. Thy are all smoking! Now producing is quite a techy subject, im not saying male producers are all uggos but cmon how many attractive woman do you know that spend hours upon hours slaving away behind a PC calculating delay times… Me thinks there are a few geeky sound engineers that are getting their ends away putting out tracks for these girls. A good example, Claudia Cazacu - Free Fallin was made by Ben Gold. Lucky bum!

Reason enough to become an amazing sound engineer haha. Phil, I thought you’d have used your skills to some good use like this by now? LOL
I have noticed this too though Jan, most of them are all getting other people to produce tracks for them, it’s a bit BS, but I guess if a hot chick wants to sit in your studio with you and is paying you some cash to make a track for her, I don’t think there would be many guys out there who’d say no.
Although lets be honest… how many of us normal red blooded males would be able to concentrate properly at the task in hand when you’ve got a hot chick sitting close next to you in the studio?
iv yet to even meet a girl who anywear near likes dane music as much as i do let alone produce it :S the only women iv heard of in production are lisa lashes, jesselyn, orla feeney, dj korsakoff and of course… MAMY ROCK!!
