Propper track feedback system

we have had a few requests recently for a feedback on my track type thing.

I know some would be beyond this (esp after some of the amazing tunes coming through from the world cup comp) but others may want this type of this type of support.

Obviously it would take a bit of resource away from making videos which we really dont want to do too much but we would love to do it if it could benefit everyone.

soooo…

  1. would you pay extra for a service like this? if so what would be resonable for what level of support.

  2. if you did want support would you want the feedback (prob a video fix it type thing) to be shared?

    any other ideas/thoughts?

i wouldnt want it to take away from the video making, ive been trying to comment on other peoples tracks more often. i also wouldnt want to pay more.

are you guys aware of slice the pie?

yeah slice the pie is a cool idea… love to know how many bands are successfully at getting the funds for their projects.

We defiantly dont want to take away from what we already do… it already takes a lot of us working long hours to do the content we do.

what about a more structured community feedback system or something? I just know there are a lot of guys out there that would like more individual attention.

say you guys where given a rating at how good you where at feedbacking on stuff or something… not 100% sure this is going. lol and im not totally sure what could we do to help our fellow producers but there are a lot of knowledgeable dudes on here making great tunes that could maybe help other folks out… maybe we could reward people in some way for doing so on a slightly more formal basis… these are just ideas.

this totally your community (the most friendly one i know btw) we are here to help everyone with whatever helps them be better at whatever it is they want to learn about.

Im genuinely loving how friendly and helpful everyone is on here compared to the rest of the internet… would be cool to reward you guys for doing it.

some sites have a mc status that you acquire and build up through helping other members out. now that i think about it maybe a extra section that people can subscribe to where they get their tracks reviewed by you guys would be cool. maybe pay as for each quality review, using the slice the pie system

yeah so say we had a facility where we chose community members who where awesome at feedback to give feedback and monitor it… it could be a paid services and the guys doing the work get paid for there time etc.

like they get the sonic stamp of approval for being really good at helping people we get a formal system going that could earn the senior members a few bucks for helping the guys who want help.

after the help is given they rate the helper and then the really good guys are in demand for being awesome and get paid more or something.

if i ever posted i track here, i think the people using the the forum would give enough feedback for your track, a lot of forums i have been on have turned really stale (not fair to name, names) any new posts to the site with Qs just get slated or the whole thread gets turned into a ‘joke’ columme. which is why i like this place, there is so many people to help, it goes way behond the actual tutors. for me, the ‘get that sound’ thread is the most valuble, we can all tell what someones track needs after all we are the ‘punters’

also what time zone do we use here my phone and laptop says 02:15 but the site says 01:15 (sorry that its way off toptic)

id be down for that phil, i would do it for free though, i like getting feedback myself so i believe if you put it out there youll get it back , a karma thing

thats it tho… i think there are a lot of folks on here who give great feedback which is why we dont really feel the need to step in and say you should do xyz to your track.

There are people who would like feedbeack from the more advanced user who rightly or wrongly has an opinion which is more valued.

the likes of ********* charge 3 times what we charge for a full year to do for a 12 week course which includes a couple of sessions of feedback with a tutor.

This type of thing is obviously valued by some users and it would be great to say “we offer this” and also for some of you more advanced users to do it and get paid.

maybe you would have to come on a course and be vetted and trained or something… then you could offer your services as a sonic tutor.

something for us to think about anyway… although prob not at 4am on Saturday morning after a tasty BBQ and some (many) beers.

thought id keep this thread alive. does anyone else thinks this is a good idea. i personally think it would add more value to the site. would like to hear other ideas and opinions on this

I myself would love to have feedback from the people at SA but I find it a joke if you want people to pay for it!

Come on, it wouldn’t take long for a few of you guys to go to the feedback section and have listen to some of the tracks and leave a comment, I also think you should be doing that anyway as I think it would maybe bring more people to the site.

My last track for example I was abit unsure about it so put it up for feedback on one of the other message boards I use had some good honest feedback on what I needed to change with the track, I changed it sent it off to a label and now has been signed to one of the biggest hard house labels, and the feedback I needed to get me to that point cost me fook all!

if this takes away time from SA to produce vids and other content, i really wouldnt want this

I think Phil’s original idea was more to do with a professional and detailed analysis of your track along with a video showing you how to fix the problem areas, not just some forum members saying ‘make the kick harder’ or ‘use a different lead’.

There is another online course provider that has such a service and I thought it was a good idea.  Most people would learn a lot from watching a pro ‘fix your mix’.  Its certainly a service that I think people would pay for.

Yeah i do agree, it’s a good concept in the way that it would be similar to being at the SA college and having the tutor look over your work and give you feedback, thoughts and advice there and then. The problem with SA online is we are unable to get that tutor advice and feedback.

HOWEVER, it’s a fine line because on no accounts should it effect the regularity of the SA Tutorial content.

This would be really cool to get this going, although i havnt been around for a while (im on training with networkrail )but thats ending in the next couple off weeks and ill have loads of spare time to do this … if you guys were gonna do this i think you offering training would be an amazing idea !

as was suggested a couple of months back pick a users track and have one of the tutors go through it and make improvements and recommendations where needed.

i still feel like it would be cool if there was a dedicated group of members that would review others tracks. maybe the identity could be hidden

It seems like a good idea in some ways, but it could as mentioned take time from the Sonic team’s normal work, and well that would mean harder jobs for them.

Personally I am happy posting my work up on a few forums or Facebook to see if anyone gives me any feedback, and usually I get a couple that know what they are talking about, and a few other comments, so I’m 100% with that method.

I’m sure whatever you guys decide willl be the right choice, keep up the great work you are already doing

i’d pay extra for a fix my mix style feedback system.

where the tutor takes the track corrects whats wrong with the mix and sends you both files back and a txt explanation of what they did to fix what was wrong.

i know at first this seems like something some users would abuse but i think if you put into place a cap of the number of fixers a user could have per year/month/quart (what ever) then it would be used correctly and the system would not be abused.

also user could get extra fixes at a price per track type of thing, in a sense hiring you guys as engineers for a short time.

maybe you guys know engineers that you would trust to do this, people who want extra cash but are also happy to explain what and why they did whatever they did:)
