Robert Henke talks with Rashad Becker about Mastering
using the ozone presets to get something playable or listenable is a great idea but if you want something properly mastered it has to be done by a professional in my opinion.
spend more time making music

This
just remember with mastering it’s often about the EQ. And 1dB cuts or boosts… not BIGGUNS!
yeah i wouldnt use ozone or any such plug ins presets
just because it says minimal house master on it does not mean it will on every minimal house tune
But the M/S eq and the dc log are really good and worth using
i would like to say prob best not to master your own stuff (if you are releasing it). Send it to a pro. Its takes decades to become a good master engineer.

Mussi - Thats gold fkn advice there man! Well said!!
well am in the learning curve at te minute guys regarding everything all techy & wonderful & yee all are leaps & bounds ahead & dig your opinions bigtime, your right, should just get down & into making music vibes, but am a little nosey … bare with me, if you start with good sample selection, tweak as you go, it makes the mix-down stage a lot easier which makes the mastering process a lot easier too right?
I’ve heard top professional mastering engineers giving out crap that 9 times out of ten requests from their clients is to “make it loud & Phat” so they do make it loud & phat… but ya can do this yourself right or have a spin at it , what mastering software do you guys use? do you all send yur tracks off to be professionally mastered ? much appreciate your answers
I self master. It definitely shows that I master it myself though. Honestly, the mix is the most important part. Get everything settled in the correct spot. Then mastering will be very simple.
My mastering consists of an EQ and Limiter. EQ to boost the highs and lows and to cut out any frequencies above 15khz (human ear can’t hear anything above that).
and the Limiter just boosts the volume without going into the Red on the master track

what you cut everything above 15K???
Why would I leave frequencies in my track that not a alot of people can hear?

there is a huge relationship in the upper frequences and cutting at 15K will make your track dull to some extent.
Like are you using a 4pole filter or ?
EQ 8 in ableton… sorry anything above 16khz. It really hasn’t made a difference cutting out anything above that… In my opinion it makes my track seem cleaner.

to be honest from that track in your signture, if that is mastered it sounds dull. The hihats could be a bit brighter.
Like to get me wrong it sounds cool as a track, but as a master doesnt sound right.
