Sample Packs - Whats everyone using?

Hey Guys & Beautiful Princess…

Just wondering what everyone has in the Cupboard for their Beats & stuff?

Have you tried different Packs / Companies Blah, Blah, Blah… and fallen in love or thought they were S H I T? What are your thoughts?

Me?

I’ve got some from Sample Magic / Loopmasters / Vengenance / Reimann / Goldbaby / Wave Alchemy & Best Service.

I won a competition a bit back & got the Deadmau5 Xfer pack which I though was pretty cool.

Got quite a few Loopmaster ones also in the same prize & a copy of Live Intro - Which was sweet. However, with Loopmasters and also Sample Magic, I think their sounds are too wet & processed. If I do end up using something from them, I’m drastically cutting & shaping their Release so that I make them “Dry”.

My favourite out of everything has to be Wave Alchemy Drum Tools 01. Really nice clean, crisp, full presence drum samples.

No OTT reverb or sexy processing… just honest sounds. I think thats what you need - a good base to start from. Thats certainly what I like anyway.

Think theres a real “business” now more than ever in regards to Sample Packs. Theres so much stuff on all of these Sample W/sites @ such a cheap price that 1/2 of it by the law of averages has to be wnak.

Maybe thats were the real money is? These Packs are so cheap, that they’re @ a disposable income pricepoint. I get Emails from all those Guys each week or so & they never cease to surprise me with the rubbish that they spout in relation to describing the products.

Womb destroying sub cone bass melters. Brain heamorrhaging Hi-hat frenzys. Minimal maximal maraca FX. Alien Autopsy Atmos. Bring back Ejay! Fcuk that!! LOL :stuck_out_tongue:

Whats everyone using and what packs & why?

Loops / Rex / Apple Loops / One Shots or a mix of the lot?

Nosey :stuck_out_tongue:

Mate - If there was some way of posting these things without you being able to get it, I’d pay!

Loads of stuff from FM magazine as well as CM. Then some freebies i’ve been sent from places like Loopmasters etc, also bought some loop packs as well from Loopmasters and somewhere else that I can’t think of where at the moment.

How do you make your beats Roben?

General hits that i’ve collected, for kicks i usually use one from the Funkagenda sample pack i got free with FM mag, but i also have Deadmau5 one too.

Also may use loops but edit them more often than not, or if i think it sounds exactly what i’m after then i’ll keep it.

Whats the Funkagenda one Man? Was that with the FM Disk w.the Vid that he did?

Do you use the loops much Man?  Always sound good, but a bit too full or something to me. I’ve bought some - so dont get me wrong.

Theres a nice plug with Logic called the Enveloper - bit like a Transient Gate or a type of Noise Gate… Live & most DAW’s willhave something similar.

If you put it over Loops, you can shorten the release & kill the Life out of them. Makes it easier to put you own reverb & FX on them if they sound dryer.

all from vengeance pack

use to use vengeance but they are taking from existing records and are often quite heavily processed, apart from the minimal drums which i quite liked

but mainly goldbaby and wave alchemy at the mo, very nice drum hits, i’m not really into musical loops etc.

Yeah… Have the Vengance Minimal one too… The hits are nice in that. That was the 1st pack I bought.

Really like the Goldbaby 808/909 stuff… but the Wave Alchemy stuff is tops.

They’ve just done a 808 & a 909 pack as well - I’m in 2 minds whether or not to get it.

Wonder if its sounds fuller than Goldbaby? Mmmm…

Yeah

Ta

That was a really good FM Vid actually.

FM is way better than CM… Dont know why I even bother buying CM anymore, just habit at this stage.

Yeah I agree, I don’t tend to buy CM that much, only if there is a producer or article that has really stood out for me. But generally the best tends to always be in FM.

The CM Vids are just awful for the most part.

Its like highlights all edited together, or just really rushed & only vaguely scratching the surface.

Keep yer money Kids.

Regarding the loops, I slice them to midi tracks and play around with them, add fx etc, keeps it sounding freash

Yeah… Thats the best way of using them.

You can pick out some some nice little parts like that too & just throw them over the skeleton of you own beat.

ha i’ll be in two minds about that, the gold baby ones are pretty full, i’m not sure what wave alchemy can do with it, perhaps wait till the sound on sound reviewew

gold baby has done one which has some really good dx7 sounds, i recommend getting that one
