whats the deal with this? see it in almost all the studios ive seen (well the pictures :))
is it better to have the tweeters facing in or out? and how far apart do you think they should be?

I’ve got mine… set up “Normal” and in a Triangle - facing my ears etc…
Anything I’ve ever seen about monitor placement always has it that way. I;ve seen them on their sides, of course - a la NS10’s…
Something quick I found from SOS
[url]SOS Past Articles now online (back to January 1994)
But it seems more logical to me (if I analyse it…) that the treble is on top & the bass is down low.
oh god is it a cooler thing? like how gangsters hold their pistol sideways?
there has to be something it if so many dudes have them on there sides
i ve instantly noiced everything is much clearer (obvious i know) but is this a truer representation of the sound?!?
As much as I hate to say I agree with ICN - just makes more sense to be normal

Well, I cant remember the name of them now… but there are the monitors that are Nearfield??? I think… cant remember.
You know the ones, with the 2 speakers each side & the little one sometimes in the middle? They go on their sides in studios.
I know thats not what you’re talking about Mate. .but I think people do both, cos that & the NS10’s are like that. Its a personal thing I suppose.
i suppose really i just want to make love to some ns10s
slender i cant believe you sided with ICN man. i will never forget this!! :hehe:
a lot of big studios do it with nearfields so they aren’t in the way of the main monitors… if you do it in your own studio you are a gangsta!

that title fits phil perfectly
Haha!
The Skullduggery!
BAH lol
mine are set like that too, I was watching a video on how to set up a small studio and they said monitors work the best when they’re equal distance from you and the wall, and when you look at each one from your seat you’re facing the cone directly. so it’s like an equilateral triangle between your head and the 2 speakers.
you’re probably fine if yours aren’t like that though, mine aren’t exact either.
Ok at the mo my monitors are sideways on short stands so both cones are pretty much level with my head.
before they were upright on the stand and the 8" cone was level with my head and the tweeter above
which do you think is best? I’d say sideways
Or I can put them directly on the desk so the tweeter is level and the 8" cone is below (and the bass will rubble through the house)
I’d say sideways, and they also mentioned it’s good to have them level with your head, so I’d keep them like that.
have you got those mo’pads?
Thomann do some, which I have… Cheaper. Think Jan got them too.

They definitely make the bottom end so much more defined. It takes a lot of that boom out of it… not sure how that would translate into reducing the vibrations through the house.
If its upstairs / all wooden floors / stud walls etc… then theres gonna be a lot of sh!t jiggling.
Aparantly the Yamaha NS-10’s need to be sideways to get the full benefit out of them.
Ah yes mo pads. I shall check em out
No, you cant get them
