Soundcloud Tips

I’ve only really started using Soundcloud properly over the last 2 or 3 weeks and haven’t had too much time to put into promoting my tracks.

I was just wondering what people’s experiences were, and what you have found works for you.

One thing i know i won’t be doing is adding random people in the hope they will add me too, and i have seen alot of people simply cut and paste the same comment on as many tracks as possible in the hope they will get something back.

I’ve left a few comments here and there but only on the music i really like. As i said i haven’t had too much time to listen to what’s out there so do you have any good group or artist recommendations to suggest?

Well here goes

  1. Listen to artists you like follow them and comment
  2. Check your email and listen to tracks that have been sent too you (I check twicw a week takes about 1 hour) also comment uf you like the track
  3. Engage in conversations - don’t bother trying to chat to someone semi famous but people on your own level
  4. Offer to do a remix on unsigned artists
  5. Be selective to tracks you fav and leave a comment saying you did
  6. Find groups to add tracks too
  7. Once you have 400 followers or so give a track away
  8. Use other social network sites and music production forums to promote your soundcloud page
  9. Enter comps that you think will raise your profile - ie not to big not to small
  10. Be consistent with adding tracks - maybe 2 a month
  11. Reply to comments you are never too big to reply

Last but not least - be patient and know it will take a long long time

Well all the above worked for me

Man that sounds like a lot of networking! I’m screwed, I’m not the most sociable person!

I’ll have to get pi55ed, loved up and start making friends! :D:D

Glad you started this thread.  I was wondering what was working for others as well…

GOod info guys, couldn’t agree more

great tips slender… thanks…

Another great way to get more comments and plays on your tracks is by joining Cloudkillers! It is free (or you can pay to add more tracks) and it is tied into your Soundcloud account. Here’s a link to sign up…

There is no real explanation how this works - please tell

DO NOT just go around starting to follow everybody. Lots of people are doing this expecting that they will get a courtesy follow in return… Then once they hit the limit, they unfollow you and follow somebody else to continue the process…

I call these “fake” followers because its really just a social networking thing that happens.

You want natural followers. Because when people check out your page… most people that have been on soundcloud for more then a day can figure out if your “cheating” with your connections or not. I for 1 will NEVER follow somebody that does this. Nor will I listen to their music. To me it just signifies that your trying to run before you crawl. Which means their music probably sucks as well because they are rushing it too much.

Last but not least… make good music. people listen on SC all the time. let your music speak for itself and your soundcloud account will appreciate it.

There you go with that filthy dubstep toungue of yours - going to tell ya mum to tell ya off, so there

Its not too complicated really, all you need to do is get a track signed, get into the beatport top 10 and then create a soundcloud profile…

Damn we should all do that - LOL

I’m happy with just adding people from here as we all listen to each others tracks anyway and I like to think we are all kind of in it together. Other than that, I don’t really care for soundcloud as a means to get fans. 90% of the people on there are just like us and will probably never buy any merch.

I choose to place my focus on more fan based sites like jango or pandora for instance.

I’ve seen a massive spike in plays on one of my tracks RoadRunner in the past two days. It’s been up there for a while now and I haven’t done anything to make it more popular. It’s been signed to Aenaria Tech for a while but not yet released. No idea why it’s had so many plays in so few days, if I get to the bottom of it I’ll let you know in case it can help.

Block.Punch - RoadRunner - Aenaria Tech out soon by Block.Punch

That us weird - sometimes i get spikes on old tracks too

Yeah I know. It’s up to 236 plays in three days. That’s what I normally see as a total for all my tracks in a week. There others are getting played out too but nowhere near that level in that timeframe.

I guess that someone must have put that track up as a widget on their own site? It’s the only thing I can think of. I mailed Luca at Aenaria and he’s not done anything yet as it’s not scheduled for release for a while.

So it’s odd, but good of course.
