Sub Duties

guys in your opinion what is performing the sub duties in the track… the kick or the bass…? great vid btw

It’s difficult to tell. The kick is never heard without the bass, and the only time you hear the bass alone is at the beginning before it is filtered as to not interfere with his vocals. Considering the pitch of the kick decay is always some consonant interval compared to the pitch of the bass, it sounds to me like each track was routed to a bus and perhaps compressed together so they might “glue.” Of course, the usual bass-kick side-chaining deal would be in effect as well.

I’m listening on my set-up here, which is pretty accurate, and it honestly sounds to me like the decay of the kick is being manipulated somehow, almost like the pitch is changing to match the bass, or the decay is shortened to allow the bass pitch to take over. I’m going to venture a guess and say both. Might be unorthodox to change the pitch of the kick to match bass, but my ear says that might be a possibility. It certainly isn’t like the typical minimal sound where the kick provides the tonic and some filtered tom provides the dominant on the off beats or some other syncopated placement between 1 and 3.

I must say this is MUCH different from what I’m used to from Dogg, even through Guetta. I’d make a lewd comment about it but I’m afraid I might be kicked off the board…

By the way…what is David Guetta’s deal? Suddenly he’s like this huge name and two years ago he might as well have been working at McDonald’s. What’s up with that?

Yep

yeah its Felix - Dont you want me. I love how all these people have to copy classic riffs but change like the last few notes…

Also i dont think one instrument is set a specific duty… I think its a combination of various low end sounds that make the bass section and the sub sections…

aye thats the one

Your not missing much

I actually like the track. Guettas tracks just have the ability to get everyone up on the dancefloor going crazy, his tracks are like the opposite of any Plastikman tracks which nightclub owners use at the end of a night when they want everyone to **** off home…

Lol wat u call it then…?

Commercial house?

I suppose I was just showing my age - pop music to me has always been more of a traditional band structure than its popularity and chart success

For example would you call AC/DC a pop band during their heady days in the charts, pure pop bands I would include were The Beatles and in more recent times (to me anyway) would be ABC, Orange Juice, Haircut 100, Pulp etc etc

Since the explosion of Rnb and dance music I would agree that the boundaries of what Pop music is somewhat obscured - since I have no idea what is or is not in the charts for so many years I an probably the wrong person to have made that flippant comment - but it did make me think what is POP
