jpgetty2win (09/04/2010)

roben (09/04/2010)
Don’t all be so negative, keep pushing for what you believe in, you may not know anyone now or have anyone related in the industry but that does NOT mean you wont get anywhere with your music.
Believe in yourself.
that is true. but you have to be extremely lucky or make moves for yourself getting to know people etc etc
im lucky as i do know people in the industry. just gettin my shizzle together before i put it out there.
Yeah same, but I didn’t know people originally, i just got to know people, so it really is as simple as that. If you don’t know people, get to know people, simples.

mau5 is full of it when he claims to have sent demos out for years.he had friends that put him on,now im not knocking his production talents when i say that,he wouldve made it eventually without their aid and still be huge, but it definitely sped things up quite a bit.back then he was a bit of a name dropper whenever pushed into a corner in those old dance music forum flamefestivals.
you really think he woulda made it without his friends. its possible of course but i doubt it.
i definitely think he would have and still be as big as he is,he writes catchy basic prog/electro/house tracks that are very digestable for the masses, easy to mix, and sound extremely big and punchy.its really not that hard(like some here make it sound) to get your foot in the door.it may seem that way to some but at some point(after theyve really tried to get somewhere with it) they really have to sit back, listen to their stuff,be realistic and just accept the fact that this was just meant to be a hobby for them and if someone really loves making music that should be enough(its not like theyre missing out on all that money to be made from selling their music, there really isnt any.all the money is from taking gigs (and doing remixes once youve charted a few times) and even that isnt all that great(not for most anyway)unfortunately this culture perpetuates a lot of myths

HEAR HEAR!!! Well said that man!!! :exclamationmark:
I agree with the above (and the one above that) I din’t know one person that was in the ‘industry’, I had nowhere to DJ and all the free gigs were to the crowd of 5 (including the bar staff) but with in few months Ive managed to put together a night, with 500 ppl in attendance (…and then few more)
It really isn’t all that hard but you need to work for it… there is loads of people in it that want things to just ‘happen’.

People are naturally like this though, and not just with music but in life, most people expect things to come to them and arn’t willing to step out the box, put in the effort to reach their goals.
For example I still have friends who hate where they live (town/city) and have been moaning about it for years, i tell them to move, they never will, scared of putting themselves out there.
Unfortunately in this world, if you want something in life you have to reach out and grab it, it’s VERY VERY rare it will just land in your lap.
I’ve been watching David Guetta for many years, prolly about a decade, constantly pushing hard and eventually in the last few years he made it, he certainly put in the effort and years though. He’s just one example, i’m sure there are many many others, I think Axwell could be another one actually, got some really old vinyls from him from back in the day when he was an unknown.
It’s too easy to be bitter about things and make excuses for other peoples success, and sure some people have it more lucky than others with family who are in the bizz, but others don’t, it just means you have to work harder.
I have old ex friends who are bitter about me because i have done better in my DJing than they have, but i stepped out the box, i knew i’d never get anywhere living where i lived, so i moved, i left my family, my friends even my girlfriend at the time to move to the other side of the country to help my goals. I knew no one here, but i just went out - all the time - and got chatting. Needless to say I reached what I wanted to achieve here, residency at the best club in Brighton, local recognition, weekend radio show on local radio and even got head hunted to work for well known local record label.
Now i have new goals, making and releasing music, I believe in myself, one day it will happen.

i couldnt agree more . i was forced to start Producing Music because i am a Dj but i end up loving to produce Music rather than Djing . i still get Gigs ad few festivals here and there but i sincerely dont think that i will make big money just Producing. but if i ever get in the top charts ( maybe someday or never hehe ). i still would like to change my style , force myself to lear new things , and probably follow other artistics way related with music . i always think that you should follow your heart and things will fall on place. i seen many friends who were Djs that they stop doing gigs or Music , because they tought it will not make them money or other reasons . i always explained them if you love something you just dont give up that easy , you progress and change with time . of course eve do you die without releasing a top hit chart . you had a great adventure just learning the science of Music
would you even make GOOD money anymore getting a number 1? :S

as being only a producer i guess not . but as being Dj and Producer you might get offers to Dj around the world . wich that is the best part i think.

i have a friend who is a sound ingenieer and worked with Jennifer Lopez Producers , he told me that they made good money . he told me as long you go to the more commercial side of music , i might get paid good money. so i think u can do as a producer remixing for bands working with already well know stars.
nowadays market is saturated with tons of Djs and Producers wich are looking for the same thing .
IMO

my long term goal is to write and produce for other artists. not to be a remixer or DJ. i hope with club/chart exposure ill be able to get to artist id like to work with. def in the pop/rock genre.
@jpgetty2win
i think you will do good producing and composing music for rock or pop bands . that is where the cash is . there is so many untalented singers that need real professionals to compose and write for them .
