Never done it before and I like to use a DJ mixer but I cant do this with ableton and then render to audio, I would need to loop back and record it live.
So if I wanna to do a set in ableton am I just best to automate everything and then render??? that would take the fun out 100% but I’m looking for a quick way to do a spot on mix for a podcast. Is there a lazy way to do it? (and sell myself out)
PS never would I ever use ableton in a club, well maybe with an external mixer!
So whats my options ableton DJ’s
If I had a pound for each one of these threads…
mate this is what fourms are for, now not to be a **** but do you have a helpful reply or do you just want a pound for every post I make to shut you up
I’m sorry if you know it all and dont need to ask, and seeing as you do know it all would you to share!!??
Please
Pound first please
dont bother… use a professional trackor. Using ableton ruins the crop quality and pulls up to many articorns.
Have you got a midi controller you can use for the mixer functionality? One with a couple of faders on that you can map to the relevant things, that way you could have physical mixer functionality, but still be able to record directly in ableton/no loop back.

nope, I use traktor and a DJM with the X1. I can just the X1 but no faders.
Dosent look like there is an easy way - remember this is for none “live” mixes like promos and podcasts so maybe automation will have to do but seem like hard hard to automate everything before rendering so maybe I stick to live recordings of traktor??
I have a laptop, with a nio 2/4 soundcard what is hooked up to a normal 2 channel DJ mixer then from mixer to amp and speakers, use a apc20 to set off clips and fx’s. Well easy to set up.

that gives me an idea
I want to use arrangement view so the tracks can be layed out, so I could set up 2 audio tracks, have one track on the first and the other on the second then when that finishes back to the first and so on.
I could use the x1 on each audio track for bass mid and hi and record the automation so thats that sorted.
Now the only issue is I have no crossfader… I see no soultion for that.
I wish my DJM could send out midi!
edit! would it work if I also mapped the x1 to control the vol on each track and a button to turn the audio on and off?
If so how would I monitor it all… getting there!
Thanks the replys so far, its helping, keep em coming!
Map the < and > direction arrows to the left & right of the crossfader.

on my computer keyboard I take it, Great idea, very “tappy” but could be a good thing.
and I can map buttons on the x1 to tap the tempo up
YASSS
Sounds like everything should work! fingures crossed!
Been ages since I’ve had to do it… Haha! But it works.
But - I think you can set the sensitivity of the xfader - so have a mess with it.
Dont forget that the F1, F2 etc… toggle the channels on/off. Handy.
The DJM800 has midi - guessing you don’t have that?
nope I’ve got the 400 I want the 2000!!
wow

I would mind just having a proper go on one.
For dj-ing with ableton i use:
macbook
djm 600
audio 8 dj
apc 40
In this set up i use in ableton 3 channels for tracks and 2 for samples, hits etc. I map the channels separately to a channel on my djm and i map both hits/sample channels to 1 on my djm, this all via the audio 8. The apc i use for effects and clip launch.
Works great for me.
