Wordpress Editing
HOUSEJAK (01/07/2010)

gofunk (01/07/2010)

jpgetty2win (01/07/2010)
looks interestig. can you place flash items on the site with wordpress?
looks good but something like wordpress is free and the best thing for me is using a hosting provider allows you to host files and provide direct downloads links etc. I have my own podcast on iTunes so need this function and the cost is only a wee bit more.

So anyone thinking of having a site may want to take things like this into consideration depending on what your plan on doing
Im not sure if i follow your post right gf… Wordpress is free and downloadable and then you put it on your own server… so you can still access everything… sorry if i miss-read your post! :(
Wordpress has 2 solutions. HOsted and Non-Hosted. If you host it yourself than you can host files & direct download links. If you DONT then you have to find a plugin for wordpress to upload files and do it that way. Using Wordpress hosting is not recommended because then you cant host your files easily. Also everybody will know you are using wordpress hosting.

btw 1and1 has a build in wordpress thing but themes seem limited, on the plus site you can get it up and running very quickly as well
seanl (01/07/2010)
sure its limiting, but if you want to get a page up and running in 10 minutes than it seems like a good option, you can integrate all the main sites and have a presence on the internet in few minutes, which seems a good option for someone not accustomed to web design, all tho wordpress isn’t all that complicated either
Correct! Its a lot like the Blogpress websites, but a lot more customisation.

you can get around the themes but just downloading a new one and uploading it to your wordpress installation.

There are literally THOUSANDS of wordpress templates.

I could make you a custom wordpress template in like 60 minutes.

hehehe - whats ur site man - its ok your plugging, I’m asking

great thanks for the info mate,

I’ll definitely get my site sorted soon, but for now I want to make some promo conten, as it seem redundant to have a site otherwise.

I’m working on some tracks/remixes atm and I really want to push it this summer to get some gigs going. Proper website is definitely on the to do list.

Sounds good sean, if you need a hand let me know

So I now have wordpress installed… what about themes… Housejak did you make that theme yourself or is there somewhere to get good themes from?

Ahh well done matey! Whats the web address?

Well, the one i have on at the moment is the Wordpress Default Theme, however i have modified it all so looks more to my liking. If you want other themes, your best going into your Wordpress Admin Panel, going down to themes and then click Install Themes and then you can search across the wordpress.org site directly from inside your own admin panel

http://www.waynefontaine.co.uk dont have a clue what I’m doing yet - I really wanna get rid of all the stuff at the bottem and replace everything… not sure how but i’ll get there! look like ****e just now!

Its just all about editing the theme settings in your admin panel.

Might be worth while going onto Wordpress.org, signing up and using there help section and forums for help i know that have helped me over the past few days.

But, if you need some help mate more than happy to do what i can for you.

looks like I’m going to need a whole array of new software like photoshop… any good software for creating images, logo etc you know of? Also how did you customise the right sidebar and change the header on that default page? Do I need to edit the css stuff?

Maybe I’ll need to learn that too!

I have a copy of photoshop on my MAC but that is patched - (probably shouldn’t talk about that lol).

In terms of that nav bar at the side, i have made the full image in photoshop and then cropped each bit and put the html codes into a text widget and linked them to the individual pages.

Thanks mate - thats a great help! one last question for you, how did you change the header pic on the theme? I dont see an option to upload? Do I need to change something my directory on my server?

Thanks again mate

Ahh yes, you will need to edit that directly. That will be in your wp-content/themes/(select current theme)/images and there should be a header in there which you can download, edit and re-upload.

Hope that makes sense lol does in my mind :stuck_out_tongue:

Got ya

Last one mate! On the sidebar, how did you know what size to make the images?

Hah! I didn’t i just guessed and guessed right i guess… lol too many guesses there isn’t there?! :w00t:

Best thing to do is right click and view properties to see what size i did mine or right click save as i dont mind.

more questions for u mate if u can help? I was wondering how to change the text colour and style in your posts? and did u use photoshop for the logo? just got cs5 and am tryin to get my head around it!

I am totally lost in this thread now
