Kick 2 without factory preset

I just bought Kick 2 for Mac, when I open it on Ableton 9 I don’t see a single factory preset so I’m unable to load any preset.
I checked on Kick2/Preset/Factory and I can see all the *.preset files there, so why aren’t loaded on Kick 2 ?
Any one can please assist or tell me how I can ask for a refund ?
Thank you in advance

@Dj_eXo Hello ! Check the exact path for your preset’s folder , you mentioned “Kick2/Preset/Factory”, but that’s not very precise. Your Presets folder should appear in "your MacOSHDD" / Library / Application Support / Sonic Academy /Kick 2

Also, have you tried to reinstall the PKG file and reboot your Mac after you found out that it was not working ?
It worth trying at least once sometimes and which version of MacOS are you using ?? That might help support too.

Not from SA support, just a forum member trying to help, if after those basics it’s still does not work you will get support from SA so don’t you worry, it should work.

Thank for your reply Tekalight,
I just wrote the last 2 folders of the path, which indeedis your MacOSHDD" / Library / Application Support / Sonic Academy /Kick 2**/Preset/Factory**

I will try to reinstall it, can I just install it on top of the one already installed, or should I remove it first ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

in this path "your MacOSHDD" / Library / Application Support / Sonic Academy /Kick 2
which is Kick2 root folder, you have a bunch of sub-folders : Clicks ; Curves ; EQs ; GUI ; Subs and Presets
written plural with an “s” at the end.

It’s probably the same but you wrote Preset ( without “s” ) in your post, so just to be sure.

In Presets folder you’ll find the Factory folder containing sub-folders named by genre and in those sub-folders are the .preset files

So that’s a clear picture of how it should have install, just for you to check.

You should be good to go with installing on top of the previous one, but to be sure you could use an app like appDelete
You can get a free to try version here : AppDelete by Reggie Ashworth.webloc (262 Bytes)

Also, and maybe check this out before reinstalling ( and even after ), it could be a file permission settings issue, so check your main KICK 2 folder permission using the free BatChmod that you can get here BatChmod.webloc (259 Bytes)

Just drag & drop the KICK 2 folder on BatChmod Gui when opened and it should tell

Owner : root R v W v X v
Group: admin R v W v X v
Everyone : R v W v X v

Hope that will help to debug the issue, to make it even more sure for re-install: download it again from Sonic Academy and use an error free un-archiver like the free KEKA.

If you achieve a clean process which for me is :

1 - Clean Un-install ; 2 - New Download & unzip ; 3 - new installation ; 4- reboot

you’re eliminating a lot of possible errors like corrupted archive, files , permission files…ect

If this does not solve the problem you should escalate to SA support.

Cheers,
Teka

Hey @Dj_eXo if you could contact customerservice@sonicacademy.com and they will get you sorted

Thanks for the support

Will try soon I get home, let’s hope is working , really need that plugin

Tekalight,
I tried to uninstall Kick 2 using the AppDelete by dragging the Sonic Academy folder but AppDelete doesn’t recognize it as an applications,I also found on Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST/Kick2.vst.

So I decided to reinstall it on top and nothing as changed, not a single preset, the folder has R-W access for owner, group and everyone.

I will send an e-mail to support and eventually ask for a refund, I have quite some plugins and never has such problems :frowning:

Thanks for helping

When AppDelete does not recognize a folder as an App you can then manually delete the folder, it will for sure recognize the AAAX/AU/VST pugins and you can delete those as well. You found the VST in Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST/
the AU ( Logic ) plugin is in Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/ and the AAX ( Pro Tools ) plugin is in YourMacHDD/Library/Aplication Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-ins

You can delete all of them manually or using AppDelete.

You can check as well the YourUserName /Library/Preferences path and delete any Sonic Academy folder or any .plist file starting with com.sonicacademy BUT THAT IS IF YOU ONLY HAVE KICK 2 INSTALLED, IF YOU ALSO HAVE ANA or ANA 2 DON’T DELETE those specific files.

Performing all the above will do for a clean uninstall, then reboot, try a fresh install again, be sure to have downloaded a brand new KICK 2 archive from Sonic Academy to be sure it’s not a corrupted file issue.

That’s as far as I can help, meanwhile I hope that you’ve got a reply from SA support and that they will sort it out with you, because yes it’s definitely a good plugin to have in your arsenal.

So wishing you good luck,
Cheers,
Teka

What is your user home folder and mainHD called?

Some times strange characters or foreign languages can mess stuff up.

Tekalight,
I tried to manually uninstall it like you advised ,downloaded new file installed and …same thing, no factory presets.

Phil,
Macintosh HD , user home folder just my name, nothing strange

this might sound a bit stupid but are you definitely cicking the correct dropdown for preset location?
i.e. top and centre

Here my lovely empty list

Some one help please I’m stuck and I need a good kick :frowning:

Yeah, this is really weird, I hope support will find a solution. Meanwhile you may want to give a try to the following.

1- / Don’t know which DAW you use but try to RESCAN your Plugins.

2-/ Go to yourmacosHDD / Library / Application Support / hold the command key while dragging the Sonic Academy folder ( or just the Kick 2 folder if you have ANA installed ) on your desktop ( to move it, not copy ).
Then use the free Permission Reset Permissions Reset for Mac - Free Download - MacUpdate.webloc

Once Permission Reset is open, drag and drop the Sonic Academy Folder ( or Kick 2 folder ) on the gui, do not change any settings but just click the Reset button on the right, confirm with pwd if asked. Close Permission Reset, move back your Sonic Academy ( or Kick 2 ) folder to YourMacHDD / Library / Application Support
Give it a new try.

3-/ If that still does not work, you could try a manual install using the unarchiver Keka.
Copy your Sonic_Academy_KICK_2_V1.05.zip in a new folder on your desktop, go in there & uncompressed the .Zip archive with Keka.
Go to the new uncompressed folder Sonic Academy KICK 2 - V1.05 and in the MAC folder to access the KICK 2 - V1.05.pkg installer. Right click on it and choose “Show Package Contents” go into the Contents folder and you should see an Archive.pax.gz archive file. Uncompressed it with Keka and it will extract a new archive named Archive.pax uncompressed this one as well with Keka. It will uncompressed a Library folder in which one you’ll find an Application Support & an Audio Folders. Inside you’ll have both the plugins and the Sonic Academy / Kick 2 files so you may want to try to copy those files from your desktop to the original location overwriting what’s already installed. It’s the same file architecture, so just have to copy/replace from this new extraction to the matching folder or file on yourMacosHDD / library

So you could copy replace the entire Sonic Academy folder from this new extraction to YourMacosHDD / Library / Application Support / or just choose to replace the Kick 2 folder especially if you have ANA installed, you only want to try to overwrite the Kick 2 folder, not the all Sonic Academy folder.

Your plugins will go in the usual locations :

Kick 2.component should be copy to yourmacosHDD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / Components
Kick 2.vst should be copy to yourmacosHDD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / VST
Kick 2.aaxplugin should be copy to yourmacosHDD / Application Support / Avid / Audio / Plug-Ins

I don’t know if this will work but you might want to try, it won’t arm anything anyway, just take care of replacing the correct & matching files . Also try to do reboot your Mac twice and perform a full “Repair Permission” on your entire system and then reboot again.

Those kind of “spooky” tricks that you don’t understand how and why it should works have save me from weird problems in some situations, so who knows, it could work.

After that, I’m out of idea but you’re in good hands with support anyway.

Best & good luck

Hello Tekalight,
And thanks again for your support

Today some one from SA will do a remote session on my MAC and try to fix it, let’s hope they will manage to find a solution.

eXo

So finally the problem as been solved by Bryan from SA , thank you very much for helping out, apparently bug due my actual OS and patch will be released soon to fix it.

Thank you every one

Ok, glad for you that they found out what the problem was and that you’ll be able to enjoy Kick2 soon !

Cheers & happy music making !!

So I have just bought Kick2 this morning and I have the same problem, did they release that patch?

If not 2 months on and still no fix

Thats bad and shouldn’t be on sale

Hey Gary

EDIT : Sorry about the mix-up between ANA2 & KICK 2 release's versions.

I suggest you to try the work around that I previously wrote in this post and finally you may consider to upgrade to a newer version of MacOS, though DJ_eXo did not report which version he was using, I’m not aware of such issue with latest MacOS.

@bryan_spence Maybe you could let Gary knows more about this issue being addressed in the coming patch or not ? Thanks.

Thanks Tekalight

Im running the latest MacOS 10.13.4 and I have installed the latest installer for Kick 2

Will try the workaround although surely this should be plug and play so hoping SA can provide a solution

Hi Gary, have you 2 preset folders by any chance at
HD / library / application support / sonic academy / kick 2 /

One with a lowercase p and one with an uppercase ?
