Roben (19/11/2010)
I don’t get it?

Have i missed something completely?

Was it not obvious just by LISTENING to tracks like Pjanoo that the bassline and chords followed a similar key structure? Am i the only one that didn’t really need Phil to tell me that’s what happens in these tracks?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to have a moan, but it seems like rather than having more technical / advanced tutorials which this site needs, we’ve been given another video series in laymens terms for people who are too lazy to work out something that’s obvious and simplistic.

& what p*sses me off is that the request and most of the +1’s was made by people who arn’t even subscribers!
Why cater for those who arn’t even supporting the cause? AND can’t even watch the videos anyways!! They should try SUBSCRIBING and watching the rest of the tuts first before making requests for tuts we don’t need.

How about more advanced stuff?

By the way ICN…

sorry man,  but thats quite selfish it wasnt too long ago you were asking the same questions covered in the tute’s, im sure peeps will get some info they hadnt known before .

Howie is right your membership is free so maybe you should try not slate content that is going to be valuable to some and support it instead ).

And phil is also right (I personally i dont think you have given anything back in terms of useful information that has actually helped anyone out) Put your money where your mouth is man and do a tute !

maybe you can show us exactly how you  managed to mix with three decks when you blatantly  have problems with one!!

I’m not slating content, i’m stating that we didn’t need this in this in particular, the people who requested it are people who haven’t bothered to watch any of the tutorials we already have, if they had then they’d not have requested it beacuse they’d already have the skills to apply it themselves. Most of them hadn’t even subscribed so how could they even watch the videos anyways?!
phil johnston (21/11/2010)
I could say going form a Cmin to a Gsharp to Fmaj and using a melody of a d, c to a and back will make you a No1 beatport hit but its an ever evolving sea of changing ****. whats cool today is only cool for 20mins… if you arnt already learning to thin for yourself in terms of chords your already way behind the game… and its something no one can really teach.
Exactly what I’ve been talking about!

Look some of you may not agree with me, but I know there are others that do, that’s how debate and discussion works.

I do find it funny Howie that you’ve not watched the videos yet still feel the need to back comment? It doesn’t suprise me however, as you have a habit of doing it to anything I say.

It’s too often you, egg2 and sometimes Jon like to gang up against me with your negative opinions which always oppose mine, along with occasional digs for no mature reason. Literally doesn’t matter what I say, you’ll always oppose it, for example in the past i’ve even given high praise to SA about things and all i’ve got from you guys is accusations of ‘kissing ***’ and brown nosing etc, perhaps it’s a coincidence that you all happen to be good buddies outside of SA?

Either way, it’s immature.

I mean seriously… wtf with these comments?
howiegroove (21/11/2010)
Whats next? A section only for white people? Roben will be the leader of that section too.

howiegroove (21/11/2010)
Hey Roben, did anyone ever tell you that you look like youre taking a dump in your avatar? I never knew you pooed with headphones on!
You both need to grow up.

I have nothing but love for SA otherwise I wouldn’t comment or come on here, and there is a reason why i’m on the User Council and that’s because I - as a consumer and as one of the longest standing members - can give my thoughts, be it negative, positive, constructive, etc, all to help out SA and / or give another view / thought. Not everyone on the User Council will agree, otherwise that would make a pretty crappy council, don’t you agree? Besides, you’re on the User Council too and it’s not like you guys bother to deliver much opinion to help out SA?

Look I know not everyone will agree with me, just like not everyone agrees with you, or the next guy who may post an opinion, that’s life, that’s opinion and thought.

News flash… we’re all different  shock

I just think there is enough beginners tuts on here already, SA needs more intermediate to advanced stuff, and the fact you don’t agree with that, quite frankly i’m surprised.

Anyways jonsloan’s on the same page as me so that’s cool.
jonsloan (20/11/2010)

It’s simply that large parts of the tut seemed very lightweight with little if any discernible learning content. Musical voyeurism not real learning.
phil johnston (21/11/2010)
Such a hangover:sick:
hehehehehe!!!

That’s why I don’t drink.

But Roben, just because I don’t flame over the forums doesn’t mean I don’t give my two cents via email. Besides, it’s not just me that is against you on this one buddy. I have watched the videos now last night. Are they 100% for me? No. Did I learn something from it? Absolutely!

But like Phil said, you should put your money where your mouth is! Make something so we can all learn! Aren’t you going to school to learn music production? I have personally made two tutorials for the community. Jon has made a few as well. I know ICN has contributed too, and that’s YOUR buddy, not mine. You have yet to give anything back but your sharp criticism.

Apologies, I didn’t realise I was here to be a tutor?

Most of what I know has been learnt from WATCHING THE SONIC VIDEOS so what’s the point anyways? My whole point in the first place is for people to WATCH & PRACTICE THE SONIC VIDEOS before requesting videos, that had they bothered to WATCH THE SONIC VIDEOS they’d not have needed to have requested.

Hope the caps helped inprint my point across more clearly this time?

Its official. I’m not Howies Buddy.

You’re such an odd character Howie. Another Classic.

there is a ‘Council’ ?!

I was unaware we were buddies, but if you want me to be your buddy, I might be able to fit you in. I know you and Roben are good friends. But I’m glad you think I’m odd.

Howie, why do we have to have segregation between people on this forum? Surely the fact we’re all on this forum is enough reason (the love of music production / SA / music) for us all to get along? Regardless of the fact we may have conflicting opinions at times?

I dunno, just my 2 cents… i’m a closet hippy i think haha

Haha! Howie - It was you that said that originally - not me.

You’re a disaster when you try to be smart.
phil johnston (21/11/2010)
Look this isnt the OC, Desperate house wives or Eastenders
Are you sure about that Phil???
Roben (19/11/2010)
I don’t get it?

Have i missed something completely?

Was it not obvious just by LISTENING to tracks like Pjanoo that the bassline and chords followed a similar key structure? Am i the only one that didn’t really need Phil to tell me that’s what happens in these tracks?
simply put all the tutorials are sold in a seperate form and maybe this advise is needed for someone that doesn’t already know or have access to the other tutorials, you are a subcriber so you don’t need to learn everything in every tutorial as you have access to other tutorials and can possibly skip parts of the tutorial and move onto the **** you don’t know.

so yes it is needed.

Oh right, didn’t think about it this way. Makes sense i guess, but still think surely it would be of more benefit to people to subscribe (even for short term) and watch the previous videos?

It goes back to my point about people expecting the ‘quick pill’ all the time, you know?

Fair enough though, I forget that people can purchase single tutorials.

actually u cant buy the new tuts so dosent really apply at present.

I personally agree with Roben regarding this tut

Yeah news to me too

Personally I don’t want to get into this debate as what I wanted to say has already been said - and you know me I never like to spam :stuck_out_tongue:

What I would add is we as customers should be abe too debate about the tuts in a positive and negative light, that way Phi and Bryan can take up what we think to improve their services

well actually you will be able to, as far as Im aware the tutorials go out to subcribers first and then to the single buy section so yeah it does apply.
we as customers should be abe too debate about the tuts in a positive and negative light, that way Phi and Bryan can take up what we think to improve their services
Phil and Bryan won't stop you debating these things and i won't delete them.

Just keep it as constructive criticism and you'll be ok

Constructive critism.

It’s an interesting line, and i’ll admit this post is going to go a bit down the sociology route, but all people like to say that they like constructive critism, however it’s a complete contridiction, because most people hate it.

For example, just like whenever one of the judges says anything that is negative on Xfactor (even though they may be completely right / it’s totally constructive critism) people still BOO and get defensive.

The problem is, that people don’t like to hear (or in this case read) anything that is negative, even if it’s 100% completely construtive critism. People don’t like to read something that conflicts with their ideology.

The other fact of the matter is ‘constructive critism’ is mearly one persons ‘opinion’ and ‘view’. This comes from their own viewpoint on the world around them, or even their own ideal preferences / way of learning / ideals.

For example - appologies for going back to xfactor here - Simon Cowel could mention that the singer went out of key (which they did), but that singers fans who may not have a proper musical ear, or mearly they refuse to think their idol / friend / family could ever possibly go wrong, they will BOO and get defensive over it.

It’s stupid. I observe this sh*t in people all the time, humans are always contradicting themselves.
