The Glitchy Electro House & a bit of Dubstep... Tutorial Thread

i found a few tutorials that are awesome for electric house on youtube…

check out nzmusic101’s channel.

Just figured I’d throw out I was listening to EM’s Podcast interview of Deadmau5 and they bring up Wolfgang Gartner’s collab with him on Animal Rights. At 1:43 he says the opening riff at 1:00 is recorded on the Moog Voyager. Just an FYI if anyone’s looking for that kind of sound. Pretty good interview, too. Here.

What are people’s techniques for having a kick sit well in a mix?[/quote]

Throw a limiter on everything that you side-chain…

Bring the output UP in things you compress.

Mix accordingly.

Explain this technique a bit more… what’s going on to make it sit in the mix better?

Usually I sidechain my bass, lead & synths to the kick. This gives the kick space to come through.

The only problem is that when you sidechain stuff usually you loose some volume in the synths that you are sidechaining. I raise the output of the compressor to make the synths louder. You can also do this with a saturator or another compressor. But then you can just throw a limiter onto the FX chain. Doing this makes sure you don’t get in the RED.

Once your compressed & sidechained… from there. Go back to session view in ableton. Bring all your sounds/tracks/synths down to 0 volume. Bring the volumes up accordingly so that your mix sounds the way you want it. Once you mix your sounds at this point, your kick is going to sound better and more prominent.

At this point you really just have your sounds mixed together. You still have to do automation and all that jazz when writing your track. But the base volumes are what you want.

Yay  Phil came through
